Overview of MetaMask
MetaMask is a web browser extension and mobile app that functions as an Ethereum wallet, allowing users to manage their private keys and interact with dapps. It emphasizes user privacy by not storing any personal information like email addresses or passwords. Users retain full control over their crypto-identity.
Installation Instructions
Mobile Apps:
– iOS: Download from the App Store and follow prompts to create a wallet.
– Android: Download from the Play Store, ensuring you select the official app with 10M+ downloads.
Security Note: Always download MetaMask from official sources to avoid scams that could compromise your Secret Recovery Phrase.
Browser Extensions:
– Chrome: Visit the MetaMask website, download, and install the extension from the Chrome Web Store.
– Firefox: Follow similar steps as Chrome, noting that the extension authors are key MetaMask developers.
– Edge: Download and install via the Edge Add-ons store.
– Brave: Install through the Chrome Web Store, as Brave is Chromium-based.
Privacy Settings
Upon installation, users can configure privacy settings such as phishing detection and token price information. These settings can be adjusted later in “Settings > Security & Privacy.”
Extension Permissions
MetaMask requires permission to read and change data on websites to inject a Web3 JavaScript object necessary for blockchain access. Users concerned about this can sandbox MetaMask in a separate browser profile.
Funding Your Wallet
After setting up a wallet, users can fund it by purchasing crypto with a card, receiving crypto from another account, or transferring from a centralised exchange (CEX).
